What is this???

Do you see how one side of each chicks chest appears bigger than the other side? I have 12 japanese black tailed white bantams and 14 golden laced sebright chicks that are about 2 months old. It is more apparant on the japanese because they don't have a dark lacing pattern, but I do notice it on the sebrights a bit too. Should I be concerned?

I feed them chick medicated starter. I also let them roam in the yard every day for an hour or more. I have feed them TINY pieces of bread. Maybe I shouldn't have? They love to eat the grass.

Any help would be appreciated!!

Those are some well fed babies. That is their crop where the food first goes when they eat. It should get smaller overnight.

You just keep doing what you are doing ~ they look great! Don't give them too much bread ~ just use it as a treat ~ they will be fine. Mine love bread too!

I once thought one of my chicks had a tumor in her neck, and it was only a full crop. Whew! Thank goodness someone here on BYC told me to check it again in the morning because it would probably be gone after the food got moved out of the crop. Double whew!
