We are going to try deworming but if it doesn't work we will clean out the coop let it dry an start over in the spring.

Use Safeguard for Goats/Cattle liquid or Safeguard/Panacur paste for horses, both are 10% fenbendazole and it gets all but tapeworms, Wazine only gets roundworms. You should also dust them and their coop for mites and lice even if you can't see any.

I had a hen die when she first reached maturity. The symptoms sound the same. I took her to the poultry lab (after she died) and the results came back that she had lymphoid leukosis. It is a virus that can spread. I was lucky that she was the only one to die from it.

Sorry for your loss, but you did the right thing in sending her to the lab for necropsy. Curiously, is it free in your state? It's free in CA.

Thank you. I do miss her. She was one of my favorites, although, I think I say that about everyone of them! lol Yes, it is free. I think it is a beneficial thing to do if a chicken inexplicably dies. At least you can find out what it was and possibly get ahead of it where your other birds are concerned.

I'm like you that way, have used The UC Davis Lab several times now, they even let you use their FedEx number.

Well I don't know, we gave them some worming medicine from our local farm store thing and they seem to be okay. We talked to the lady there and she said it could also be from ingesting to much fecies. We cleaned out the house and it was so funny becuse all they did was spred it out evenly again so I took more ut and they did the same thing! so funny, but they are doing beter but we only have 4 chickens now.

They all are acting fine though and all is well!
