The only reason I shoot stray dogs/dogs running or killing stock, is because it's illegal to shoot the owners of the dogs!

I went through something pretty simular. My nine year old use to sneak my neighbors dog into our yard, and into our house, then to her bedroom all the time. Then we got chickens. We thought that our coop was safe but it wasn't. She got one of our hens. then I lost three to hawks. I was told by the guy at our feed store that our hens were to big for hawks to get, so I would let them free range. Then one day came and gone, we were sad, especially my nine year old. We went to Low's and bought a huge fenced in dog pen, and put it together, we put chicken wire across the top and a lagrge dog crate inside, we also have a place for them to nest. We also put chicken wire on the floor, and chicken wire around the out side. Any thing that gets in or out of this pen, we are in charge of.

I am glad your Dad was able to shoot that dog, though.
