I have not had a problem with flies in the coop all year. It finally got cool last week. Before hopping on the plane I cleaned my coop really well and the flies were horrible. Is this just the time of year?
I did put some DE in before putting in fresh bedding. Any ideas? Anyone else having issues?

I find this very odd considering where you live. However, it could be the time of year. While I don't really know why there are so many flies, I know how to solve the problem of getting rid of them.
1. Hang fly traps. I prefer the liquid ones just because a wild bird could get caught in a sticky one.
2. Continue using coop deodorizer.
3. Scripture any manure off the edges, sides, and top of coop.
4. Bury and\or compost manure that is left out.

Hope this helped!:frow

It's bad. I have been doing all that. I called the Orkin guy even. He said he went over today and said they were cluster flys. This is my first fall in the new house. I guess they are eating and hanging out in the coop on their way to my attic to overwinter.

What's a 'cluster fly'??? It sounds like fantasy Orkin 'facts' to me! Those poor little critters are just trying to make it for next year, after all.... Mary

We are plagued by stink bugs here, they hang on the window screens waiting to get in. They smell awful if you smush them, hence stinky.
I have heard that those tree shaped air fresheners in Vanilla scent repel flies. Never tried it but not expensive so why not?

Where I live, flies are a major problem almost year round so I use a wood fly trap like this:

next to the coop which I bait with a little bit of cecal poop and leftover wet cat food. It's very effective.

Flies have been bad at our place this year too...and yes those darn stink bugs are coming back out...ugh!

We had stink bugs last week when it got hot after it being so cold. They have pretty designs on their back if you look close enough.
Flies not too bad anymore since I pick up poop every day and have a hanging rescue fly trap ;)
