what is WRONG with my Coturnix..?

Buttercup's suggestion of roasted bacon wrapped quail is starting to appeal to me

YIKES !i don't want any "killers:"....i don't care about a peck here and there , no big deal , but this aggression when they should be laid back and out of breeding mode is getting soooooo annoying!
i'm starting to think that my white males are pure evil.
Buttercup's suggestion of roasted bacon wrapped quail is actually starting to appeal to me !

not sure of the reason but my EW males have been mean little snots here lately as well mostly with me when I stick my hand in the cage they chest bump me or either jump at me with their feet they are not beating up the hens though

Are you sure it's a breeding problem? They might be fighting because their water is frozen or they are out of food. This time of year, my guess would be the water. They are getting grouchy cause they can't get a drink so they pick on the first one that laughs at their plight

I really don't think it's a breeding problem right now, they are just stressed out about something.

I was telling DH how a couple people are having birds fighting, yada yada.

He said there is a lot of sun flares right now. I wonder if that has something to do with it. Sun Flares affect electronics and magnetic something or another. Guessing

Had to edit spelling I couldn't read it, that's bad

all i know is that the E.W. males are ...WERE (as i now have each 1 in it's own cage for the time being..sheesh! ) ...pounding on each other , mounting the hens and crowing like it was spring....
You all have offered alot of interesting thoughts to consider though!

I have noticed that colored lights work a lot better. Some lights have a twinkle in them, and that will make them go crazy. I use blue lights in my cages with trios. In my colony pens I keep a heat lamp at the moment because of the cold, and in my flight pen they get a big strand of blue christmas lights.

i found eggs in the pens this morning....LOL there are NO lights , there was NO snow ...until yesterday that is

birds have lost their minds i guess

I'm working on the Shelly angel, because it's the most logical at the moment.

Coturnix don't usually freeze to death, they thirst to death. Brutality can hamper the situation.
This is also why I have single roo pen set ups. That way I know with certainty, that a scalped roo is because the hens did it, not because Alpha roo is knocking off the competition.
