Roo on roo violence is one thing, but a psychotic hen will scorch the earth beneath her....peck, head butt, stomp any bird down....Yes it happens. Few and far between, but it happens. If anyone wants to tame a psycho hen...I have 2 that I will pay you to take

THIS IS MUCH MORE COMMON IN BOBS.... THO NOT FROM LACK OF WILLINGNESS, JUST MEAN LIL WENCH. I HAVE 1 THAT GETS A STEADY STREAM OF NEW "PLAYTHINGS" OUT OF MY BACHELOR PEN... 3 DAYS IS ABOUT ALL THE LADS CAN TAKE BEFORE I HAVE TO SWITCH THEM OUT WITH A NEW VICTIM.... THAT NASTY WENCH HAS A SERIOUS CASE OF BLACK WIDOW SYNDROME. I SWEAR I THINK THERE'S PREYING MANTIS IN HER BLOOD LINE SOMEWHERE...

Hahaha...i was just thinking that about the praying mantis thing a little while ago too.
Honestly, i couldn't handle it if i had to deal with that kind of craziness on a regular basis!

So are you saying that my BLUE tarps are what is making them party on. OH MY, I never thought of that. Tomorrow I will change the tarps to black or something different anyway. I think, every single girl out there is laying now.

Give your killer girls a sandbox to play in and make sure their males are as big as they are and from a different hatch. Worth a try, worked for Big Bad Bertha, she only killed 2 females and 3 males, before I figured her out. Until the weather changes. No she has finally settled down.

It took a long time but it finally sank in. I'm changing them to black in the morning. Was going to anyway, cause I knew to much light was getting in, in the day time. But now, there's no putting it off. Busy day tomorrow.

This may be why I was having problems with them laying so early too. I never thought of the blue tarps.

Well I put up the Black groundcloth, but left the blue tarp on the outside of the framing so it would look lovely, just lovely.
But it helps keep the groundcloth in place. If there is still too much blue light coming through then I will have to change them to green, with a black backing I think, not as cheap though.

The Green is what I started out with for the first 2 batches to use as awnings, but they didn't reach the ground when I dropped them. I wanted that to stop drafts, so I changed to blue because they were longer. Almost did myself in.

So this will stop the laying. But what about her rowdy boys???? If they are just little trouble makers, I don't see how this is going to help them. If they are frustrated, well maybe it will help calm them. Or put blinders on them.
Note that she and others don't have older more settled birds to help calm the youngsters by example if nothing else. My older birds seem to be tallking back and forth with the younger ones, so they are probably just old enough to do the trick. But I am still guessing as to why. Probably the Blue Tarps that I am now hiding from them.

Well, lets see what happens over the next few days.
