4 days ago on Saturday I noticed she wasn't acting like herself. Not active, just laying around. Thought maybe she was egg bound because her vent was constantly pulsating. By the end of the day on Sunday, her vent was all swollen. On Monday she had a little more energy and was walking around in the room I was keeping her in. We had a vet appt and about an hour before the appt she popped out a hard, rubbery, pink thing about the size of a quarter. I brought it to the vet with her. The "vet" was clueless! I mean it seemed I had more knowledge about hens after all my research over the weekend than she did. She had no idea what the pink thing was. Had never heard of a lash egg (I thought it might be that). She just checked her heart and said it sounded good. Also felt her abdomen (didn't feel an egg), but didn't do an internal exam. And because she was alert the vet didn't try very hard to diagnose her. I suggested mites because Chicken Lady has been picking at her self and pulling feathers for a week. The vet barely checked her and said she didn't see anything. I suggested maybe an infection or parasites. I had to ask her to take a stool specimen and check for parasites (still waiting for results). I also asked her to check for an infection, but the she said to wait a few days because antibiotics can be hard on them. She did give me an anti-inflammatory to help with her swollen vent so that's a plus. When we got back home from the vet she again wasn't as active. Today her vent is still pulsating, but not as rapidly. I tried letting her back outside and she still isn't normal. Just standing around, picking at her feathers instead of running around looking for bugs. She has been pooping, eating and kind of drinking water all along. I'm so frustrated right now. $130 later and feel like she didn't get the care she needed. What should I do at this point? Please help.

Do an on site search on 'lash egg'. It sounds as if that is what she passed. Threads that appear will give you more information. This frequently indicates a reproductive tract problem. Many veterinarians have no expertise in avian health issues.

I get that most vets don't have Avian experience. That's why most won't even see a chicken. I figured if they see chickens they must know about them. My bad I guess :(
