My Coop
About a week ago she started acting broody along with another hen. Long story short I locked those two outside of the coop/temporary run with food and water in hopes that they would snap out of it. When I picked her up for the night her comb was bleeding in a couple of places. I thought either her and the other broody got in a fight or she injured it on the fence trying to get into the coop. Well I work twelve hours days so with this new development I was scared to keep her locked out and this whole week she has been allowed to be broody. I noticed this morning that her comb was swollen and this evening it’s now oozing blood. She’s been on antibiotics for two weeks now for Bumblefoot so I find it hard to imagine that it is infected and she’s been huddled inside of a coop for a week. Is this something else other than an injury?

Sorry about your hen. Her comb looks swollen with bruising and pecked. I wondered a little about possible fowl pox as well. It looks like her comb was kind of dry before this happened. Is she acting sick or very low in pecking order?

Well I lanced the swollen but and there was pus. After removing puss it filled back up with blood. Her name is Scratch for ample reason. As a chick she nearly scratched herself to death after having a wound. Now she is scratching this profusely. I have no idea how to stop her. It’s such an awkward wound to bandage

So do you think that her scratching caused all the wounds on her comb? Combs that are swollen are very painful. Have you looked for any lice or mites on her, especially since is itching and has been broody? Hydrocortisone cream might be something to apply to her wounds, perhaps after disinfecting them.. I haven’t seen one scratch herself making wounds on the comb before.

I think she starts scratching because the initial injury hurts. It never occurred to me that hydrocortisone cream would be safe. I will have to see what I have on hand. I hope the comb isn’t infected.

It seems like a pecking injury that happened to your chickens comb.
I don't think that there is anything bad apart from other chickens pecking your chicken.
If you have another coop you could try and isolate her so that she doesn't get pecked.

Another alternative is that you could also try to stop the chickens hurting each other by pushing them away from each other every time they peck each other.

I have done this, and it will take a long time, but it will be worth it. The pecking order will always be around, however it will be a lot less severe.

Hope I am not too late and good luck

Bella sometimes eats oats, but she never eats Chicken seeds, pieces of bread, or compost.
Bella doesn't normally move much and when she does she walks very slowly.
sleeps and rests multiple times each day
slightly darker comb and wattle
When did Bella last lay an egg?

Could be the angle of the photo but her crop looks quite prominent so I would go out early in the morning before she's had anything to eat/drink and feel of her crop. It should be flat/empty.
While you are checking her crop, look her over for lice/mites and feel her abdomen for bloat/swelling or feeling of fluid.

I would encourage her to eat her normal nutritionally balanced poultry feed.
