The brown would rub off, but would leave the skin discolored below. It doesn't go all the way through the skin. Two main things. I need to fix it for the other birds I still have, and can I eat these birds.
Fits the description of scabs or other damaged tissue. I've seen plenty of scabs on meat chickens and turkeys and they behave as you describe. Bottom photo just looks like scabs.
Poor bugger in the top photo looks rough. I'm wondering if a lot of that wasn't bruising. I've been really sick for a couple weeks and one result is that my eyes are not always willing to focus well right now.
If it's merely scabs or bruising it's fine to eat the bird.
