my neighbor has chickens as do i , she lives across the road , and some of her chickens are acting funny and we were wondering if it could be due to the recent snow ice and freezes , she has had a couple die for some odd reason but thinking it is do to to many roosters , but the question is , what will cause the area around the eyes to swell cause the eyes to close and you can hear like a rattleing noise when the chicken breathes and have a snotty nose also the chicken will hold its mouth open and stretch its neck out like if it were trying to spit something out and make a caw sound like a crow does ? what is wrong with her chickens, is it sick or what and if so , what antibiotic does she need to give them ... my birds seem ok but i also have heat lights on them and all , what does she need to do , any opinions

That is most certainly an illness. Sounds like a cold. They are probably trying to clear their passage way so they can breath. I would take one to the Vet to make sure it isn't something worse, and contagious. She should quarantine the sick. Hope yours are at a safe distance.

Yes, THEY ARE SICK. BIG TIME. It is nice that you are trying to help.

Other folks will come along who have had similar issues to advise on medical treatment but for starters, the sick birds should immediately be brought indoors into a quiet, warm, stress free area with comfortable bedding and food and drink available 24/7. It's way too much work to be sick and also dealing with the cold.

These birds need medical help immediately.

ok thanks guys , and yeah i live across the ross im about a 100 yards away but her birds are free range and so they come over this way sometimes , but the vet is notified now and im waiting for a call from him

You would do well to erect a barricade around your chickens to prevent them from having contact with her birds. At the same time, if they were mine I would increase their protein, feed some plain yoghurt and give them a diluted amount of vitamin water to give them a little extra nutrition in case they catch whatever it is. It's possible that her's became ill from wild birds.
