If this is in the wrong area, please move it to the correct one.

I went to collect eggs and found this egg. I have no idea who laid it, it is either a buff orpington or dominique. They are all about 15 months old. What would cause the egg to do this?? I have been getting a few odd shaped eggs the last few weeks, that have progressively gotten worse, but this is by far the worst. Thanks for your help!

I had a few that looked like your crinkled one. Gave the chickens crushed oyster shells and haven't had any more weird ones. I also give them back their own crushed egg shells after I use the inside parts.

I wish I could tell you what causes it but, I can't. I have a hen doing the samething-or she was as she hasn't laid for a few days now. My hen is a brown and she is 13 months old.

Good luck on finding your answer.

Looks like the hens are low in calcium and if it isn't provided, it should be. In cats and dogs if they are lactating while low calcium or inefficient dietary calcium, their body robs from itself, and death ocurrs quickly.

I'm intrigued-could you please expand on this answer ie: how does bronchitis, a resperatory disease, cause this?

They can cause reproductive track problems. We explored this in Speckledhen's thread on Zane and Lorilei. Mine have free choice oaster shells and I feed their egg shells back to them.

They have free choice crushed oyster shell, free-range and have access to layer pelletts. They all are very healthy, no one looks or acts sick, their combs and wattles are bright red, I don't see how it could be bronchitis, but I will check into it more.

What about cancer, I think I was reading on another thread about cancer causing wrinkled eggs?
