One of the Coturnix chicks that hatched today is psycho and I'm wondering if this is normal behavior. S/he is attempting to eat everyone's toes, including his/her own! I've seen him/her eat the crumbles (I put them in the food processor and made them like sand), but s/he much prefers toes and is like a little alligator when s/he latches on! What is going on?!?

Weird isn't the word! *LoL* My DH had already "named" them - Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, etc., but since there are 8 of them, I told him he'd have more than a week's worth. However, when this chick started trying to eat toes, I told DH he was about to lose his "extra" meal!

Will it injure the other chicks or is it okay to just let it attempt to eat everyone's toes?

We had a little a&m like that so I built a wall with my sons duplo blocks and put him in solitary confinement

A few days later we put him with some jumbo's that were a few days older and they kept him in line for a while. Last week the same bird (now an adult) was running around like a psyco attacking all of the birds both male and female so I put him in a box and gave him to a friend with no other birds. The guy I got the eggs from said in the 25 years he's had quail he has had 3 that he had to put down because of how many other chicks they killed. In one case it wiped out half a dozen within an hour.

It can injure the others, but I haven't ever had one do so. You can try a red light if you don't already have one, so if it does hurt somebody, the others won't be attracted to the blood. But I doubt it will do that much damage.

It Lasts A While, Cause After He Burns Off The Bourbon And The Hangover Hits His Head Will Hurt Too Much To Peck!

On A Serious Note Tho.... He Sounds Like A Healthy Normal Quail.
