So I finally admitted a couple of months ago.... I've been struck with chicken math. My reasoning for why I ended up with 10 chickens made complete sense.... just couldn't figure out why people would look at me crazy. So here's my story.
Couple years ago, I said to my mom (she lives with me)
me: "We should get chickens. The price of eggs are going up and seriously... how hard and expensive could it be?"
mom: "You're crazy" Fast forward 24 hours "So I think chickens are a great idea!"
Before she could change her mind, I ordered 4 chicks. After a while, I decided 6 is really the correct/perfect # of chickens so I got 2 more. Well one turned out to be a rooster and after rehoming him I was left with 5. I started feeling bad for the one that was separated from her buddy. I mean she was just so lonely. So for her (it was never about me), I got 3 more chicks. Doesn't that make perfect sense? She needed friends so got her friends... which never really panned out. Then the lone hen went broody and after a few days we decided to let her hatch some eggs. Just in case, some didn't make it or in the case we would get some roosters we let her hatch 6. Well 5 hatched and only 1 rooster. We kept the girls and rehomed the boy. In the meantime, we had to put 2 hens down and after all that I have 10 chickens now. I really don't understand what happened. I mean, I know the course of events of how I have 10 chickens but I swear it was a whirlwind. What is worse is I dream about redoing my coop and make it bigger!
