What is your chickens favorite treat?

Popcorn and blueberries

corn on the cob
watermelons
shredded mozzerella cheese (they go nutty for this)
mealworms (another huge hit!)
And as of this morning. . . . . cupcakes (*yipes* --they were unfrosted and going stale -- ok won't do it often!)

They will take my fingers off to get at anything that resembles a sliced grape.

Then it's got to be vanilla yogurt as a close runner-up. Although if I even walk outside with some cantaloupe innards I'm immediately mugged and instructed to "Drop it! Now step away from the bowl."

I've never thought of lunchmeat either. But I am finding there's a lot I normally compost that I could give to the girls. Just concerned with how much is too much. But it sounds like there are a lot of girls getting treats everyday and sometimes multiple times a day.
I guess I shouldn't be so stingy with the treats, huh?

For this weather, watermelon. They will actually completely ignore the roaches I offer them and go straight to the nice cool slices of watermelon. In more reasonable weather . . . nothing beats a handful of roaches.

Yes, let me clarify that I do not feed my girls meatloaf or cake on a regular basis but if I'm fixing something for dinner, I will set some ingredients aside so I can prepare it without seasonings. I compost as well and I think that turn thru the girls dramatically cuts down on work and wait for the compost pile. I mean, they don't even require added heat to make it work. Out the door, to the girls, right on thru and out to the garden. Efficient! My maters and peppers are digging it!

mine love any kind of berry. Tomatoes are probably a close second. They go crazy over yogurt too, and I agree, nothing is better to a chicken on a hot day then a slice of watermelon. I wonder why they don't like carrots?
