What is your chickens favorite treat?

Since I have only had my girls for 4 days (they are 18 weeks old), I have been giving them a little bit of everything on this list--and they haven't NOT liked/enjoyed anything.. I have given them sunflower seeds, bird seeds, blueberries, blackberries, grapes, tomatoes, lettuce, crowder peas (shells and all), oatmeal and of course their laying pellets! They have to be locked in the coop for a while so I am using this time to spoil them and get to know them. I think I will find some meal worms or crickets tomorrow!! Great post..

MEALWORMS!!!! They love mealworms. They look something like this when they see I have bought some mealworms

This time of year they love love LOVE frozen bananas..we always have worms (I am a gardener) so their becoming jaded...but thrown a frozen banana in there...and the best thing is for the next few hours they smell like bananas not chickens lol

tomatoes watermelon muskmelon
cooked rice apples organic plain yogurt
oatmeal dew berries leftover salad
raspberries cottage cheese mealworms, live & freeze dried
dried kelp sardines kippers
worms grubs frozen crickets
bird seed diced greens suet
anything at all mixed with yogurt

I'll have to try peas and bananas. Chickpeas, too. Leftover spagetti goes to the dogs!

Japanese beetles!!!

And I'm so thankful they find those rotten little buggers tasty, since there are millions of them.

Otherwise, they go bonkers over tomatoes and watermelon.

I was bringing my new roo home, and stopped to pick up chicken nuggets, with him sitting right next to me.

What can I say I love chicken. Anyways, Mine seem to love popcorn, and rasins.

Mine are only 6 weeks old, so I'm being careful with not giving too many treats.

They've had yogurt mixed in with their starter since Pasty Butt at a week old and a bit of uncooked oatmeal that was recommended to give with that.

In the past few weeks I've introduced mealworms, and they run to me whenever they see me now that I'm the mealworm lady.

Today I brought them a little container of grass from the pet store. They were terrified of it but ate the blades of grass from my hand.

I've heard of hand-fed birds before, but I'm not sure hand-fed chickens are a good thing...
