what is your chicken's weirdest treat?

Haha, yeah. My chickens make a b line to the cat dish every morning when I let them out and chase the cat away from her food!

Fish food(they go nuts over it) Red screams for hers and they love the left over water hyacinth out of the pond.

Mine are so fun to watch, they have a field day with rotten tomatoes. They will chase each other, trying to grab it out of each other's beaks, just like playing flag football. We found a few of those "green horned tomato worms" today, they had a ball playing tug-o-war with those worms. My chickens fascinate me, I guess it doesn't take much.

Weird Treat---

I let them "stay up late" -
After dark, I stand cinderblocks on end in a circle-
Attach a clamp-on light to the center partition of one- Aim it more or less vertically-
The birds stand on the tops and eat the bugs as they fly by...

As far as munchies- They like the big okra I've missed picking small- split with a knife so they can get to the seed and drop between the rows-

so far, their fav's have been a rice, salsa, and hamburger casserole, and fancy cat food (the kind that costs a fortune and comes in tiny little envelopes at the grocery store)

I wish mine would freak out like y'alls do! I think because I only have three birds, there isn't enough of them to freak like they might not get some.....I want mine to play football with a grape for 30 minutes!

Anyways...great thread! I'm gonna go open a melon and give them the seeds...where's my camera?

my chickens love spaghetti bolognaise and it must be a chicken thing because mine will run round with grapes for hours aswell lol

OK, went out and gave them honey-dew melon seeds....as you can see, they were not too sure....

maybe I'll go make some more rice....lol

To me the weirdest thing they like is chicken- yup chicken?? like the fajita breast meat you get from the store.

Others treats they LOVE : any kind of fruit, yogurt mixed with their food, hard boiled eggs, wheat toast, any kind of veggie.

Oh I almost forgot this is werid too. We went camping last week and I had a big bowl of macaroni/tuna salad left and they flipped for the leftovers.

Omeletta: Your girls are so pretty. Our chickens do not warm up to every treat right away, either! The first time I gave them cheese, cantaloupe seeds, and even BOSS, they didn't dive in. Now it's a food fiesta when they get them. Go figure.

A nice fresh bag of Japanese Beetles. The go absolutely nuts over them! My DH mixed a bag of beetles and some bread crumbs, and dumped out the B&B treat, and they sqawked for 5 minutes straight. Now they go crazy when he walks in the coop with or without the bag 'o bugs.
