what is your cold weather scratch mix?

Ya I too make sure that in winter there is always a flock block inside the coop for them. I also hang up homemade suet blocks for them...and hand veggies from the rafters etc to keep them busy.

Our coop is in our garage as well!. My husband built it so we can add more insulation on the out side of it. We don't plan on having heat all the time in their for them, only when It's in the minus. What is the ceramic heater you are getting?

Scratch is simply any grain or mixture of grains that is pitched on the ground in there pen or yard to encourage "scratching".

Hi! We're also in MN. Come fall/winter we enrich the girls diet with butchering scraps, and hunks of venison carcass ( 1 rib cage=hours of fun!) and allow more startchy treats like cooked potatoes.

The rib cage sounds like a good idea. I assume you put it in their run skinned and not cooked.

In their run unless they're closed in because of weather, then it goes in the coop. Raw...yes. And pretty well cleaned up. Humans are still at the top of the FuzzyFarm food-chain....well...usually...sorta.

As far as skin goes...when we butcher beef we'll throw smallish pieces of hide in their run for them to clean off/play with.

I always give them extra BOSS and corn is all. But where can I get this flock block? In the winter My girls and boys

spend a lot of time in the coop cause its cold here. I didn't have any trouble last year but I'd like to give them more entertainment this year...
