I was working under the hood of my pickup, bent over, and out of the corner of my left eye something caught my attention. Straightening up I turned my head to see our large White Rock rooster running directly for me! I blinked and then noticed that ten feet behind him was a coyote totally absorbed in his soon to be meal.
The little wolf saw me a fraction after that and his eyes got as big as Elsie the cow's. He did a back flip in the air and headed back the way he came. In the meanwhile the rooster ran right up under my feet. He and I didn't always see eye to eye but apparently he recognized the lesser of two evils. The coyote couldn't have been more than ten feet from me when he turned to run.
A couple of morning later I heard the chickens being distressed and so grabbed my rifle and went out the front door and peeked around the corner of the house. The coyote was trotting 45yards away from me, so I drew a bead and punched it's clock. No more chicken dinners for you Mr. Coyote. I can still see that rooster highballing toward me.
