What is your favorite breed?

Silkies

, Cause They Will Sit On Any Eggs So They'd Be Good Incubators Instead Of Having A Homeade Or Buying One lol.
They Also Go Very Broody Which Is Why They Mostly Only Lay 100 Eggs Per Year. But they Are Just Beautiful! I Ordered 15 From Cackle And There Suppose To Be Here Tomorrow Can't Wait

I actually have two 3 1/3 month old partridge silkies. I'm still trying to figure out if one is a girl or boy though. Hopefully I'll be getting some eggs (or a good broody!) in a couple months.

It wasn't my dog who did any of this. She's very good with the chickens. She did slip in and steal an egg from the coop today, but she brought it straight to us, totally undamaged. ;) My chickens are totally free range (except at night, when they are locked in the coop obviously) and Maggie is allowed to roam with them whenever she wants. 1 of the neighbors (it was 3 different neighbors' dogs and 5 dogs all total) took is very seriously. They chained up their dogs immediately, had a pen and big doghouse built for them the next day, and brought us the money they owed us the day after we sent them the amount. They got their business handled and we've had no problems. 1 of them said they would keep their dog inside until they could find her a new home. It's been 5 days since the attack and she has been out 3 morning, and they have decided not to rehome her. They put up an invisible electric perimeter that will shock her if she leaves the yard. If it works, fine, if not, we will shoot her if she comes into the yard again. The other household had not put up their dogs faithfully, has not paid, and has not even talked to us since the day it happened. Anyways, that's more than you probably wanted to know but I'm kinda worked up right now, sorry.
No, from what you had posted, I didn't think it was your dog. Besides, you probably wouldn't have left her sweet mug as your avatar if she had been the guilty party! Wish my dogs were good like that!

At least you got some response from one neighbor. Most don't care. They think their roaming dog has a right to be free and take no responsibility. I've talked to people who have used those electric fences, and they work great as long as the batteries in the collar are kept charged. We have a county wide leash law here, so any dogs running loose are picked up and the owners are fined, particularly if the dogs kill livestock. Animal control here is pretty responsive (sometimes bordering on repressive! -- lesser of two evils?).

I like what speckledhen has in her signature. ~A dog on its owner's property is a pet; A dog on someone else's property is a predator~

Ooh, I may steal that...
We are still waiting on one neighbor's payment, but overall the neighbors have been good about it. We have no leash law, but we do have a law saying that we can shoot any animal on our property that causes harm to us, our property or our possessions. We have reminded the neighbors of that. I hope we don't have to shoot any of the dogs, but at this point if that's what it takes then fine. I'm so done with this. Constantly having to worry about if the dogs escaped their pen, if they let them out, if I'll wake up tomorrow and have no flock to speak of. It's stressful and I'm ready for it to be over.

well, id say my favorite breed is barred rocks. they are nice and friendly, very non-aggresive. they also are good layers....mine lay 6-7/week and keep laying even as they get older. i heard someone say their barred rocks were laying well at 4 years old. and they can be funny too......they tend to take over the flock i think(they did in mine), and maybe a bit greedy when it comes to food, but they dont hurt my other chickens so i guess theyre fair
