Pepper almost sounds like my Cream Legbar pullet (the one in my avatar) named Hazel! She's definitely the loner. Pretty sure she only thinks about foraging, because she doesn't care at all what's going on around her. She's also very "I'm my own chicken no need for a flock" except that she still wants to be around our Cuckoo Marans. They're best friends, basically.
Pepper was Salts best friend, but she didn’t really care when she left, I think it was more of Salt following her.
Pepper had some beautiful chicks though! I sold one and the other I sold after Salts got killed by a cat and it started getting depressed to the same family that had Salt and Bear disappeared with the entire flock one day.
I can’t wait to see what her babies will look like if Kia ever gets the guts to fertilize her eggs 😂

The babies are peppers, Bear is the darker one, Junebug is the lighter one, the dad was a barred mix of sorts

Why would an owl take the head off and not the whole thing or at least munch on it a bit? I know owls like to try to swallow their prey whole when they can but didn't think they would leave it behind unless scared off.

I’m not sure, that’s why I thought it was one of her retrievers, but I remember reading somewhere that if the owl is rushed or not able to go back down they’ll end up accidentally just taking the head. But that doesn’t sound likely for her flock

It is weird. I found a headless body of a large rabbit near my back door once, which was very upsetting as that rabbit was so friendly. She'd hang out with me as I was gardening. She liked the deck & steps at my back door, gave her some cover, She'd scoot under my truck, make her way under my steps & deck & go around the side of the house where there's some good greens to munch. When I had the chickens out gardening with me, she'd either lay stretched out watching us or hop around among the chickens, eating clover with them. She'd go into their pen with them & once started digging a little hole to have her babies. I felt bad I had to chase her out, once the pen door is shut she'd be stuck in there, though.

Anyway, I Googled what would take the head & leave all that meat behind, and learned owls do that. I like owls, like hearing them hooting, I know they gotta eat, too, but I wish they'd focus on mice at my place. I really liked that sweet rabbit. 😪

I chose white because my eggs are all white. I think white makes it easier to candle the eggs. But they aren’t all exactly the same white. Let’s see, I have ivory, alabaster, cream, linen, bone, frost, powder, parchment, porcelain, pearl…..
