What is your worst layer chicken breed?

Right now? My Blue Orpington who thinks she’s the Virgin Mary  . Hasn’t laid since she gathered her little unmatchable clutch (I’ll be taking that from her tomorrow). Second to her would probably be my Sumatra- honestly I don’t think I’ve ever even seen her lay an egg lol.

Broody?
Broody hens stop laying. If you want a broody I wouldn’t blame her. This is what normal laying hens do to maintain the flock existence. But they lay less eggs because of it.

This is a negative and weird phrase imho. For the health of your chickens its good they don’t lay an egg almost every day. And its good for them to stop laying in autumn when they go into moult. Its also better for their health if they take a break when its cold and there is not much daylight.

Better ask for the number of eggs they lay in a year + at what age. It’s general knowledge the commercial laying hybrids lay most eggs. The very old ornamental heritage breeds often lay just about 60 eggs a year. People who keep these breeds have other intentions than (ab)using chickens for egg production.

There are lists with breeds that give an indication of the number of eggs you can expect. For the Netherlands the most complete list is available on a chicken site, in alphabetical order. You need to scroll down beyond the intro and advertisement for the alphabetic list. https://www.kippenpagina.nl/kippenrassen/
If you click on a breeds name you can read how many eggs you can expect. Can you use auto-translate?

Maybe there is such list in the US too?
