What killed my chickens and ducks this way? WARNING graphic pic included.

I have lost 4 ducks and 2 chickens in this manner. I know we have a weasel out back that we are trying to trap. One duck was carried off, you could see the tracks in the snow. one chicken had its head decapitated, no blood, body left untouched. One chicken was killed just like this pic of the duck... and 3 other ducks just like this also. I am in the process of making weasel boxes to try to trap them that way besides reg. traps set out. What else could kill my ducks in this manner? Nothing else on the body was touched, just the neck , stripped completely. Anyone have a clue? Or how better to trap this sort of preditor. My ducks and chickens are fenced in with a coop. [/quote That sounds like it has to be a weasel because weasels kill for fun and most of he time will let them untouched but dead and sometimes headless

Did you ever find out what did this ..I came out to this with one of my ducks this morning after I let them out at 8 am I’m in California where I’m sure we don’t have weasels. Broad daylight the rest of my chickens and ducks we’

It was a coyotes. We had it happen today with three of the ducks we had, had the same damage as your pic. The other one had a chest wound and beak half gone and the last one got taken away...and the entry it took was small and the tracks suggest coyote and your picture looks the same I know it’s a couple of years late. But j

I realize this is an older thread too. It could be a number of different predators. My suggestion would be to put up a camera. What ever will come back and then you would know for sure what you'd be dealing with.

I know it’s a few yrs late but coyote, we had it happen yesterday to three of our ducks,

A lot of predators go for the head but some kill just to be killing.You're lucky they haven't killed more if you don't have pens that are secure .Until your pens are secure unfortunately you will have losses sorry.Electric fences are your best friend.
