What killed my hen

I found one of hens dead this morning, she was laying in the roosting room, on her side. There wasn't any blood, here are a few things I noticed, her neck feathers were standing up, her skin almost looked scaly, and she had a piece of barley fodder in her mouth half eaten, part of it was sticking out of her mouth. Any ideas what happened to her, please any help will be appreciated

how old is she? was she in good condition?
what colour was she ( skin colour)

she was a year old, fair condition, had trouble walking a few days ago but had gotten better. her skin was a little white.

its possible that she had a heart attack, around 1 year of age sometimes a few are lost to this. her skin could have been scaly from sheding skin . its also possible that she was very anemic and had something else going on as well
