what kind of bird is this?????

Somebody on page 1 suggested that it was a juvenile male ringneck pheasant, and my bird-books and google image search concur.

I don't know a lot about pheasants but it looks like a young common pheasant to me as well...

another pic, that might help, very strange, I have never raised any quail or partridges, where did this bird come from??

I'm not convinced on the pheasant ID. Would make more sense for a lost turkey poult to show up out of nowhere. I've never reared any pheasants or turkeys, so take my opinion with a piece of a grain of salt only.

Thanks everyone, I agree it must be a pheasant of some sort, he is still around, but tonight he went to roost, not sure where. Will keep an eye out. He is welcome to stay or go as he chooses, my husband says, "yeah, they are good eating" but he came here for shelter, right?? LOL!!

Chinese pheasants are naturalized in most of North America- and are hatched in great numbers by hunters who release them so they can be hunted in the fall.

There's a chicken in the back of that photo: a turkey poult would be nearly the size of the chicken at that stage of feathering.

In any case, not to confuse people with facts or anything, but Ringneck Pheasants on Feathersite: scroll down for juvinile birds.
