What kind of bird was this? Predator of chickens?

Well, yesterday was definitely VERY overcast.....rain ALL DAY LONG the day before & rain/drizzle/snow flurries yesterday & didn't get out of the 30s...very cold (to me) & windy & just plain raw! One of those days you just wanna snuggle up in bed with a cup of hot coffee & a good book.

Then, have some good hot chili or Chicken & Dumplin's for supper.

Appearance

Hawks
Typical Voice

Adult Description
Medium-sized hawk.
Body stout.
Wings broad.
Wings pale, with dark trailing edge.
Tail medium-short.
Tail dark with one thick white band in middle, and one thinner near tail base and tip.
Face dark.
Chest reddish, reddish barring along sides.
Throat white.
Immature Description
Juvenile similar to adult, but underparts white with streaks down center of breast, and tail buff with thin dark bands.

This bird looked that shape & size, but I didn't see any white throat, nor any white band in the middle of tail or on tail base nor tip. Didn't see any barring color (but didn't see it's chest good).
