I'm sorry, what? I'm not aware of araucanas laying brown eggs.

From http://www.araucana.net/

The standard Araucana are rumpless and have tufts of feathers protruding from each side of the head/neck. The Araucana also has a pea comb and they have the distinction of laying Turquoise or blue shelled eggs.

Sara,
Yes, they may lay brown eggs but a hen that does should be culled and only used for egg production unless it's the only one you got and it is double-tufted rumpless and preferable a very rare color. There are so many good Araucanas available right now so there is no reason to really use a cull in ones breeding program. HS
Sorry, this may be a Manx Rumpie and they do lay brown or cream or white colored eggs and are rumpless. I had them before but they are very difficult to have fertile eggs unless you trim them. Good luck finding a mate but there may be some at the up coming Auction at the Lebanon Valley Exotic sale this Saturday. The Bloomsburg sale is in May and you could also pick them up usually there since there were 2 pairs sold last year. They are probably sold out at Sandhill for the year but check the site. Also there is a person(Dr. Al McGraw's son) down south that sells them as day old for $75 for 15 chicks. HS

I am downloading pics, it's just taking forever, sorry!

ETA: I don't think rumpless, maybe just a little butt instead of the normal fluffy hen hiney.

Egg, it's the little one and the other is a red sex link egg. She lays almost every day as soon as I put her back in the pen after a couple hours out in the yard with us.

Sorry guys, ,I really thought this was going to be a simple newbie question.

We have a couple of BO hens, some RIR hens and an Araucana roo. We got several babies from the last batch of eggs (not sure which hen they came from) that have a color between the BO and RIR and (some) have green legs and no tails!

This one has yellow legs.

MoonWalker,
Now you really got a good project there. That buff Araucana X has real good color and very hard to find buff standard Araucanas. There are several people working on that color right now. You should post a picture of your bird on the Araucana.net site. She is a real looker.

Hey Moonwalker, nice rumpless. Looks like a good start to buff color to. You got any tuft geneics there to breed into the buff?? I take it has a pea comb to? Can you post more pics, would love to see some close ups of the buff araucana..is it a roo or hen?? if you ever get any you would like to sell, feel free to let me know.

Thanks
Charlie

I was thinking of this in a purely breed standard way, in which they shouldn't be laying brown eggs. It makes sense to have ones that lay brown eggs if you were maybe working on a rare color, and the birds you were using to create it caused the brown eggs. Good point.
