Hi all! New chick momma here! We got 4 chicks from TSC last week and they were supposed to be Plymouth Rocks. While researching I noticed that images of those chicks have spots on their heads and ours don’t! Any ideas on type? My little plans to do 4-H with them so we sort of need an idea! Plus, they all are supposedly pullers but I’m worried that if they got the type wrong they also got the sex wrong!! I’m a little worried because we are only allowed Hens because we live in city limits and also a little ticked off that I might not end up with what I was told I was buying! Lesson learned, but still need to figure out what I’ve got!

The black ones could be Austrolorps, Jersey Giants, or Marans. What color are the bottoms of their feet?
The blue ones could be Blue Andalusian, Blue Copper Marans, or Sapphire Gem.

You will have to wait until 8 weeks at least to tell between the blue chick breeds. At 8 weeks, you should be able to tell the earlobe color. Andalusians have white earlobes. The other 2 have red. As for the gender, post pics of the combs at 6 weeks.

They say that in Plymouth Rock's, that it is the boy's that have that spot on the head.
My roos have always had white spots under their chest, on their head, and around their mouths. My females have always had white spot on head but no spot underneath.
Coloring or spots doesn't have anything to do with the gender. It's just a coincidence. The spot on the head represents the barring gene, which both sexes have.
