Hi, I recently purchased 4 baby chicks. I know for sure I have one buff Orpington. I also think I have 2 Rhode Island reds and thought I remember hearing Ameracauna as the other. But I'm not positive. I'm very curious to find out what breed they are. They are 2 weeks old and are starting to lose their fluff and feather out. Thanks for your help! I believe the first chick is the Ameracauna and the second is one of the Rhode Island reds

Awesome. And also is there any reason it's growing faster than the others? When I got them they were the same size. Not sure if that means it's a rooster or if it's because it's been eating more or what. It's significantly bigger so I'm not sure what to think. The Easter egger is the one I'm talking about btw

Welcome to BYC!

Cute babies! Size means nothing at this age. Well, it can, but it is not always a good indicator of anything. Chicks grow at their own rate. And sometimes a slow grower will have a growth spurt out of nowhere and they can double in size quick. They can go from runt to largest in the flock or even stay small. As long as this one is eating, drinking and keeping up with the others, there is nothing to worry about. When they get a few weeks older, you can post their pic in the What Gender section here on BYC for some sexing.

Enjoy your new babies and if you have any questions, that is what we are here for. Welcome to our flock!

I've noticed different sizing of birds also and found that it never had anything to do with the sex. Some seem to just be bigger then others. I have a mallard duckling right now that I have named "fat boy" because he is 2 times the size of the others and only 6 days old.....I haven't even checked to see if it's a boy.

I'm new too, but your egger looks just like mine. Both my eggers are growing faster than what I was told is a RIR. I have no idea what that means, however!

Cute chicks tho!!!
