What kind of clay?

I am so bored at home lately! I was searching the internet and found some "statues" of egyptian gods I would like to buy but seeing as they are $50 each I thought Id rather make them

Much like this one of Anubis

and bast

I like the texture of the bast.
Why kind of clay would I need and would I need a kiln or could my oven work?
Any info is appriciated!!

You could try doing it in polymer clay, which would work in your regular oven or toaster oven.

To get the shine you'd have to use progressively finer bits of sandpaper and/or a varnish.

But do you mean use sandpaper to get the shine or to get it out?

progressively finer grits of sandpaper will polish the clay and make it shine.
