Hello, welcome to BYC. Good for you in doing your research before you get the coop or the chickens.

Here's some basic information that is good anywhere:

The Usual Guidelines

For each adult, standard-sized hen you need:
  • 4 square feet in the coop,
  • 10 square feet in the run,
  • 1 linear foot of roost,
  • 1/4 of a nest box,
  • And 1 square foot of permanent, 24/7/365 ventilation, preferably located over the birds' heads when they're sitting on the roost.
4 square feet is the size of a large doormat and 10 square feet is the size of a standard fiberglass bath/shower insert.

How many chickens do you plan on having?

My own Little Monitor Coop is designed to meet all the minimums for 4 hens.
