What kind of dehydrator should I get?

I have a Nesco as well!

I don't use a jerky gun, rather, just cut the meat into 1/4" slices, marinate in a favorite marinade (I love the Allegro brands, even over homemade), usually marinade over night, and then lay in the trays, sprinkle cracked pepper over it, sometimes some garlic powder, and then dehydrate til done! It comes out sooooo yummy - DH eats pounds and pounds of it (and so do I, but he likes to scarper with it).

I have tomatos drying as we speak! I think I messed up when I put them on the trays because the slices look like they are going to stick to the trays. I forgot to rub some oil on them first. I want to hear from you who have used the jerky gun too. I haven't used mine yet-I am nervous about using raw hamburger meat like it calls for. Any thoughts?

Well, I was pleased to find that mine came two fruit roll up sheets and something called clean sheets. I went right home that night and picked figs and they dried beautifully. I'm very pleased with the machine and see lots of dried goodies in our future.

I'm going to try the thin sliced meat for jerky first before I get a gun. I read some reviews and some people didn't like them. My local gourmet kitchen store sells the spice packs so will have to go and check what they have. I will also search the Internet for recipes there as well.
