This is a 5 week old duck, it’s smaller than my Rouen ducks and has no green feathers in the sun. I’m curious on your opinion of the breed and gender? I haven’t heard a deep voice yet. My guess is a Swedish duck, but I’ve been told it looks like a Pomeranian duck and a Indian Runner.
Thanks!
Hannah

Wow, I had never heard of a Pomeranian Duck until now so did a deep dive which led me down an interesting rabbit hole. Pomeranians appear to be a German landrace breed kept by a few European breeders (and potentially in Australia as well). Blue Swedish were developed in the 1800s from blue ducks originating in the Pomerania region. I assume this means that Blue Swedish were developed from Pomeranians. The Australian standard states the visual difference of the two breeds being that Blue Swedish have white primaries. It appears many Blue Swedish in the US do not have white primaries so this method is likely inaccurate. Upon trying to see if Pomeranians are kept in the US, I’m honestly not sure. I think this might be similar to the Polish/Padovana chicken confusion where one is an older name but they’re used interchangeably. There are no major hatcheries that I can find that stock Pomeranians. I would feel comfortable calling this a Black Swedish assuming it wasn’t sold as a Pomeranian.
