I found this board when googling duckling images, hoping to get a clearer idea what my duckling is.

He was originally guessed by one person as a swedish black and possibly khaki campbells mix.

Another person said he looked like a khaki.

Now that he is getting his tail feathers in a bit, I can see some green shimmery in the sunlight on the tail feathers.

So, what do you think he is?

Also, his beak started out dark grey on top, lower part was a pinkish color. Now, the upper bill is fading to a light grey, with dark spots on it.

I'm very new to ducks, so I have searched every duck image I can find, and none of the ducklings seem to resemble him completely. There is always some big difference in every type I've found....

Thank you! We love him.

It looks like a Muscovy duck to me

At the risk of offending Muscovy lovers everywhere.....I hope not....

I have a real hard time with the....well....stuff on their faces.

look at them big ole' claws

muscovy

he'll probably end up dark brown or black, my Squeaks was about that color as a duckling, and he is gorgious now

Here are some pics of him today:

And one of his tail feathers coming in, pretty green:

Looks like the popular opinion is Muscovy. Here I've been reading mostly about Khakis, so is there any Muscovy-specific things I should know?

Ducklove...I'd love to see pics of Squeaks.

there not much difference between muscovies and other ducks as far as feeding, and housing go.

my two eat the same exact food as the other ducks, and do just fine.

the onyl things wich arn't a big thing is that muscovies like to roost, like chickens do, and even a big adult male (wich can get up to 16 pounds or more) can fly, they don't need water for swimming either, just enough to clean off their faces, and drink , i have a small "pond
" I dug, and the scovies rarely swim.

if they breed with any other breed of duck, the offspring will be sterile mule ducks.

here is a pic of Squeaks, from several months ago, he's a big clumsy oaf, and was probably close to if not over 13 pounds when this picture was taken, wich i believe was back in early apirl-may.

it shows off his "elvis" hair

I've got a much better picture of him I've got to find

and no, he's not done getting all the red stuff, call caruncles?, on his face yet, he's gotten much more since this pic.

ETA: do you have any pics with feet relative to body?, IE shows feet and body, judging by the way Squeaks sisters looked, your little one's face and head remind me of a hen but don't quote me, find out it's not and commit suicide cause I said it was

, Drakes will also have much larger more awkward looking feet at a certain age.
