Without a hatch mate to compare it with, the sound or sounds it makes may be the best way to figure out if the Muscovy is a male or female. Both sexes make a variety of noises at first. After a bit the males begin huffing and after a bit longer they do not make other noises. The females will continue to make a variety of sounds as they age. They do make hisses similar to the males huffs, but only when agitated or broody.

Would we need to get him more than one female to live with? I’m having no luck rehoming him so I’m thinking he’s just going to stay with us. I’m also having a tough time finding other ducks! One CL ad for a single pekin but I’m not sure if that’s a good option.
