Thanks. It turns out that it is a wood duck chick and they are a protected species. I contacted a local wildlife rehab center and they were glad to take it. We even found out that they are open to the public for walking tours and picnics so I'll bring my kids back.

That's great news, now the little one can rehab and be released back into the wild.. Thanks for going the extra mile for it.

Always. And I've discovered a hidden jewel right near my house that will give the kids hands on ways to help the wildlife in out area. I love it.
