I have been using chick feeders for my pair since I got them, but am wondering if I should switch to something else? I know they have little heads, but are the chick feeders safe for them???

Also what do you feed your quail. I can only get quail food at PetSmart
This is $5.99 a bag for 5lbs. Is this a good price? I also give them laying mash that I buy for my chickens and ducks. I think the female eats that, but mainly she eats the stuff I buy at PetSmart,

You want to look at feed stores for gamebird food. Dumor feeds are sold at tractor supply, most feed stores carry or will order for you Purina Gamebird chow. Chicks you want to feed game bird starter 28-30% protein adults should be fed 19-25% protein. A 50 lb bag of gamebird food will go for about $20.

This is probably the cheapest most common feeder. I put mine on blocks so the birds can't scratch the feed out and waste it.

Thank you dc3085 for the info. I have look at our feed store, only have 2 commercial stores and 1 family owned, neither of them have anything for quail. I was told at TS that all they carry is for song birds. Same at Southern States.

Try asking by crude protein percentage. Tell them what protein percentage you need and ask what they have that is close. Un medicated turkey starter would suffice if you could find nothing else, since it is around 28% protein. Anywhere that carries Purina products can order you the Purina Gamebird chow but sometimes you have to be a little forceful with them. I had to remind my local store that their purina rep wouldn't like them turning away business over a few minutes of paperwork. Tractor supply can order the dumor game bird feed but will also probably require some persuasion on your part.

Had to order some feed today, they didn't have any in stock and it seems that TS has always carried it, it's the employees that didn't know to look for it or WHERE to look for it. They have to keep it in the back, no room on the floor. But they are totally out, so they ordered some for me. :)

I think we are going to start buy the "organic" chicken feed as well.
