Ok, so I had to go to the feedstore today to pick up some starter/grower for my chicks. I ordered my feed and some oyster shell and grabbed a new water and then asked if they had any chicks. The girl said they sure did, they were in the chick room. So I eagerly headed through the door to the chick room and that's when I saw the sign.....
Frizzles $3.50

I nearly fell over....

I have been wanting a Frizzle since I saw them. Well I looked and looked through cage and all I saw were adorable little chicks with just a few feathers coming in on their wings. Smooth feathers... I though all the Frizzles had already been bought and right as I was about to give up hope...

I saw one...

I grabbed it and put it in the little box and then I saw this one!

And after I grabbed it, I saw this one and squeeled!

Ok, so I know they are frizzles, but does anybody have any idea what breed they are? I'm guessing they are about a week old maybe? I'm not really sure about that either though... Any help would be great!

I would guess they are probably bantam cochins. If you can find out what hatchery they buy from you can go to that hatcheries site and see what kind of frizzles they do and that ought to give you a clue as to what they could be. If they only do frizzled bantam cochins that kind of seals the deal.

Well I was thinking the two with feathered feet might be bantam cochins but the yellowish one has clean feet. Is there a bantam cochin with clean legs? I will try to remeber to ask where they get their chicks from next time I go in there. Heaven forbid they have chicks next time though, I'm afraid my hubby will divorce me if I bring more home.

Hmmm, I've never had a bantam anything, lol... Can you breed a full size with a bantam? If you can, then what in the world do you get with a cross like that?

One more question... Any ideas what color they are going to be or is it too early to tell?

I know one thing though, I am totally in love with all three of them no matter what they turn out to be, lol.

Wow you're right on those legs, I missed that. I wonder if it might be a cross. My feather legged crosses come up with feathering down the outside like that if one of the parents was clean legged.

My white frizzle cochin banty was a dirty white/buff color when I got them. She's the prettiest white girl now with one black feather on her chest.

Most hatcheries have Frizzled Cochins and the second two are surely Cochins. The first just may be one that does not have good leg feathering. Hatcheries don't always have the best quality birds from any particular breed. The little Black and White look to be very nice so far.

I hope you enjoy your Frizzles, I was smitten when I saw my first one and still think they are just priceless.
