What kind of goat are these?

Maybe these goats aren’t fully mature. They don’t smell bad yet. But I did know male goats pee on themselves.....

Oops I googled Oberhasli goats, they are about that height, I have not owned them before, I still say they are larger pygmy, but I could be wrong.

They look youngish, so it could be in your future. I adore my wethers, they make friendly pets. We have banded larger bucks with success, otherwise a vet can do it quickly.

They are still 'teenagers' but will begin to exhibit more and more unsociable and potentially dangerous behaviour as they sexually mature. You really do need to get them 'done' as soon as possible. Even if they remained pleasant in demeanour, which is unlikely, they will STINK in the most indescribable way. My sister stroked an entire male at a petting zoo (why on earth was it there?!!!!!) despite my warnings and, no word of a lie, washed her hands dozens of times, soaked them in bleach, used highly perfumed soaps, laundry detergent, everything, and still smelt of him almost a week later!!!!

All of that said, you have two very handsome boys there (I am in agreement with the 'pygmy' ID) and as mentioned, as wethers, they'll make wonderful, friendly pets....my two are like dogs.....love to walk out on a leash, come when called, roll over for belly rubs, put their 'paw' (hooves) up to get a hug or a handshake and are fun-loving little tearaways!

I think dewormer and castration is in their near future.

Could be right there!

And yes, sexually mature, uncastrated goats pee on themselves the way men use aftershave....to make themselves more attractive to the girls....and also to broadcast their manliness to other males. If castrated before their hormones start going haywire, there's no reason they should do it.....it a 'bucky' behaviour.....but you need to act soon, your boys are on the cusp of manhood

I don’t know what weathered means. I know practically nothing about goats. But am a fast learner. They are twin males that are not neutered.

No biggy but I would also say your boys look a little 'bleached out' and fuzzy tailed which can be a sign of copper deficiency....a really common issue in goats. Might be worth speaking to their previous owner about their coppering regime xxx

They ate whatever they could find. I don’t think they ever had breed specific feed.

If they are 30" inches high at the shoulders, they are not straight pygmies. The coloration is a standard Alpine color pattern, chamoise to be exact. However, they are a bit blocky to be purebred Alpines, so they may have some pygmy in them. You need to get them castrated ASAP.

@CayugaJana How is it going with your soon-to-be wethers? BYC's sister site Backyardheards is a fabulous community with many active goat owners. You seem like me to love to soak up info and the threads there hold a wealth of knowledge. I believe that it would be a great additional resource on you goat journey! (p.s. The site has been experiencing some loading issues for the past couple of days, but normally it works fine.)
