This is precisely what I was talking about. Thank you for posting the pics. Look at the 1st pic. The iris may be blue but around it; the color is already turning "golden." My yellow females eyes are almost black they are so dark and seem to get darker as they get older.
Now look at the 2nd pic of the female. The iris is dark almost black; but around the iris it is brown. This is what I was refering to about an easy way to tell the male from the female on eye color.
I finally found a pic of two yellow males born mid to late Feb. 2008. Look at his eyes and the other's tail. See the gold around the blue? See the barred pattern?
2nd pic is of a female born at the same time in 2008 as those 2 boys. Look at the tail feathers. I am almost positive peewee has a female of some sort.
Finely got a good pic of the eye color for this bird. I can tell the difference between males and females with the eye color for all my reds. But I guess I'm having a hard time sexing this bird. Like I said not as light as my male reds of this age but no where near as dark as my females. What do you think?
After seeing "its" eye, I do not know what to say other than wait and see. It is definitely not a pure yellow or red. The eye suggests male, and the tail suggests female. However, there are strange crosses out there or maybe a rare gene has arisen to the surface on this one.
Oleduke, I was going on faith that I would be getting pure yellows not some cross. I'm kind of disappointed that I didn't but I guess I will wait and see what I get when s/he grows out. Could turn out be a beautiful bird. Guess I need to wait for next year to get my real yellows.
