What kind of heater do you all recommend for my coop?

Heat really is not needed along as your chickens don't get frost bite. However if you want to heat your coop lightbulbs are dangerous and can cause fires i would use a small space heater. If you were increasing the egg production in the winter you would need light however.

The only heat I use in my coop is a small wood box with a paver stone on top with a 60 watt light bulb under it to keep the waterer from freezing. I just made it out of scrap stuff I had laying around. I lined the inside of the box with metal flashing to reflect the heat to the paver. The trigger for activating the light is a thermo cube thermostat. It kicks the light on around 35. The light bulb warms the paver and the heat transfers to the bottom of the waterer. Works fine and only uses maybe 1/2 an amp so an extension cord will run it with very little risk. I did have the waterer freeze up lightly when it stayed close to zero for a couple days and froze solid when the bulb burned out. This year I may add another bulb to it so no freezing and as a back up in case one bulb burns out.

I did try to make sure I would have no drafts in my coop when I built it though. I even house wrapped the outside. :)
