She could be. If she is a Black Sex-Link (which is an awesome breed, by the way), then that is a sex-linked cross between a red gene male (Rhode Island Red, New Hampshire, etc.) and a barred gene hen (usually Barred Rock), so it's kind of like an "offical" mix. The females are black with red around the neck and chest, and the males are barred. This one is a Black Sex-Link, I'm pretty sure, but one of the parents must have had some different genes to produce so much red.finally! i have a name for her. Is she a mix?
That's good. Sex-Links are specifically bred to produce lots of eggs in cold weather. I live in Minnesota, and my Red and Black Sex-Links are excellent layers.oh goodie! Finally! She is mild mannered and has been producing eggs all through our cold canadian winters.
