iLLIA SAID:The hen IS a Marans, just not a recognized color - As the OP said, it hatched from BCM eggs. Wheatens who hatch from BCM eggs technically are not wheaten anyway.
It just looks to me like a false Wheaten x Black Copper.
Crunchie: I think those legs are just pale. Black Copper roos often have pale legs on the inside, usually of slate or pink coloring.
I'd have to agree with everything Illia has just said. The Roos do not have yellow legs. Yes they are light on the inside. These hens I hatched are not part of my breeding program Their just nice hens that lay a nice brown egg,and I decided to keep. The first hatched hen lays about a 5 on the Marans scale. Not someting I would throw away. Still a very nice egg.
I did read somewhere where some lines of B.C.M.'s would thow a Wheaten. I won't go into breeders lines of where these hens cropped up from B.C.M.s. How this happened I'am not sure.
I'am not yet on the level that you all are on the Marans breed, but I'am O.K. with that. I love learning. You all here are great mentors.
Just wondering what is the genetics of true Wheaten Marans, and what makes them pure Wheaten Marans. I know I'am full of questions.
