You can buy holographic garden tape, to scare birds off - it really does flash in in the light - maybe it would work instead of cds.

Thanks I'll look into the tape. We saw a 4 foot black racer snake around out chicken house this past week. Not sure if snakes can climb metal walls or not but they make me even more cautious about our 2 week old ducklings.
