what kind of predator makes this print

I'll bet you thats an opposum print. Check out the claws on this guy that I trapped, looks exactly like your print! This guy was tearing up my yard, so I caught him and drove him down to the lake and turned him loose. Did this guy break into your coop? I hear they're pretty vicious, racoons are too, but I think you're print looks more like a possum. I bought a trap at the Tractor store and it didnt take long. I put some cat food in there (first I captured my stupid cat) so I reset it and about 2 hours later at 11pm, there he was........

Check out my chicken run, I put some one foot squares all the way around so nobody could dig underneath it. You probably dont need two rows, I have only one now because I stole the second row for my expansion. Dont know if this is pratical for you or not. We have skunds, raccoons and opossums.

looks like possum. Ask around and see if anyone has doble ended traps> We used peaut butter in the bottom of a dish and sliiced marshmellows pressed in . Put your traps aroud large trees (uncut vegit),, and carry a shotgon when you check them them the next day When you shoot them this time of year, a family usually has four, but keep your traps out for a week.. Good luck and I know how it feels to loose loved birds

I'm sorry to say he ain"t your only one. This time of year families are still together. look for about four and shoot them. Saves me the damage and problems

I got lucky I guess, the one that I trapped was a loner. Havent seen one or evidence of one since.
I leave my traps set year round, where there is one there are others.
I just got a female last night and the trap was out in the middle of the garden. When I bate the trap I like to use a good sweet feed [one with lots of molasses] if you don't have that on hand take a tuna fish size can of scratch grain and add enough molasses to it to make a sticky mix. They love it.

thanks all, I am going to buy a trap today and hope to soon post a picture just like the one above from Kim95037. Also thanks for the good ideas on bait.
