Which species of quail have that do-hickey on the top of their head?
I want to say it's the Bobwhite? Would that be right?
Thanks

Are Gambel's all over the country? We are working in developing a quail/pheasant habitat on our farm, and I saw these small birds that looked like quail, but they had that thingy on top of their head. We're in Nebraska, so I guess that's why I thought they would be Bobwhites.
thanks

Per google, the gambels inhabit southwest desert regions.

Valley quail:From British Columbia south through much of Washington and Oregon, their range extends eastward into Idaho and Nevada; along the Pacific Coast in California south through Baja. Has been introduced into parts of eastern Washington, Utah and California. Successfully introduced to all main islands of Hawaii, where it has become a popular game bird. Introduced to central Chile in the 1870s where it has expanded its range and is now quite common.

Mountain quail inhabit western states.

So it looks like valley quail would be your best bet

Well, I am directly in the middle of the country, so it wouldn't be the valley quail... dang it. I wonder if someone planted them out here at some point?
ORRR could it be something totally different? Maybe a pigeon?
Shoot. I got all excited thinking that I was getting somewhere with this habitat we're working on...
thanks

Hi, everybody! I have a question about my quails and hope you can help me. May be somebody keep singing quails? Recently I bought a pair of them but have no information about how to keep them (food, behavoir, reproduction etc.). In South Africa they known as singing quail, but I have some doubts about. Unfortunately as a new member of forum I can't insert my image into post, but males with strips on the chest and females without.
Thanks a lot in advance!
