What kind of sand is okay for coop?

Thanks everyone. I've search my area for river sand and so far have not found any. I'll look more after everyone goes back to work.

Gorgeous coops guys Thanks for the great plans and info. I'm looking forward to redesigning my coop. I unfortunately have become disabled with an unstable spine. So I can't just jump into rebuilding the coop
now. But it's something I can look forward too. Great ideas.

I've looked all over for river sand. Most people have no used what I'm talking about. Could it go by another name?

If you can't find river sand, get the coarsest sand they sell. Having little pebbles up to 1/16" is fine. River sand is a mix of everything from fine sand to 1/16" pebbles. It is not all uniform in size.

haha... no queries in my area.

What he said^^^^

I found the 'names' of sand are variable, and almost completely unreliable, when shopping for sand to mix concrete for sculptures.
It's like a strange language, often geographical and/or colloquial.
Had to go around, look at it, and talk with sellers to find what I wanted and what it was called at each place.

What about DG decomposed granite? They have different grades ect.

Hi,
You are in Norco, I see. Some noted poultry breeders in Norco. Esp. Black Copper Marans I see. Maybe search : Norco poultry ...and see what falls out of the Net. Then wash dress, stay away from your birds after you do ( Biosecurity) and see if you can go coop hopping and see how they have their set-ups. If they say no, just keep on plugging. They are probably worried about biosecurity because they don't know you.
Best,
Karen

It should work. Its usually used for paths, patios and even driveways, as it sets up harder than sand ever will. It is also usually more expensive - $40-$50 per cu yard, where as sand is around $30. But if you have it I don't think it would hurt.

Would sand work to use in the coop with bedding on top? Wondering if it would help with moisture...
