What kind of turkey?

I am going to say possibly a Narragansett which looks similar to a Royal Palm but not quite , I have had both and that's my vote.

Nope it's understandable, the Royal Palms look similar imo they just have a lot more white both are amazing breeds, sadly I lost one of my RP's to a possum not too long ago :/

It may well have Narragansett in it but it definitely is not a pure Narragansett.

Wild turkeys are a bit bigger than domesticated turkeys. I had a big old Tom coming around to have a look at mine, he's a big boy, so there's a difference.

Even heritage strains of domesticated turkeys get larger than wild turkeys with the exception of the midget strain.

To me it looks like it has some Narragansett blood lines. Beautiful bird !

Be careful. Not all wild turkeys are the same variety and they do not all grow to the same sizes. There are without doubt wild turkeys that are bigger than Royal Palms.

In fairness to @oldhenlikesdogs it is very possible that the wild tom she is referring may well appear larger than some of her turkeys and it is also possible that the wild tom that she has seen could have some domestic turkey genes. It is very common for wild turkeys to breed with domestic turkeys.

The wild turkeys here get taller than my heritage varieties. Not too many people have turkeys around here but me. The one I saw repeatedly coming right up to the fence was big, and had a long beard. He was impressive.

I thought wild turkeys are smaller so they can fly, while domestic ones are bigger which hinders them from flying as far... My wild girl seems kind of Leaner/smaller than my other big ones excluding my white midgets.

I think we are comparing apples to oranges.

From my observations the Eastern Wild Turkey Tom, on average, does grow taller than a heritage strains of domesticated turkeys and are more robust, stout.

Most domesticated strains will grow to be heavier and thicker.
