I have a wood floor and put 4 coats of floor krete on it. It's about $30 a gallon. The underneath of my coop doesn't touch the ground but I still coated it with polyurethane. I just used regular lumber.Hey yall. I’m building a coop and should I use pressure treated or non pressure treated wood for the floor of the coop?

Thanks for the reply, my coop is 2 feet off the ground, I have joists in place ready for flooring. Il be using fine pine chips for bedding. I just didn’t know if the birds were to peck at the floor would it make them sick. Will your coop floor touch the ground? Any wood that touches the ground should be pressure treated or one of those expensive woods that resists rot and insects.
What will the bedding be like? If the bedding will hold any moisture the wood should be treated or use one of those expensive types. Some people put a layer of linoleum on top of the wood to protect it. Some people paint it with Black Jack or something like that to protect the wood. What your coop looks like has an effect on this.
My coop is on the ground and my coop floor is dirt so I don't have this problem. But many people build coops with wooden floors.
No, it's won't make them sick. Lot's of people use treated wood without a problem. There are not going to eat it and the chemicals used these days are different from the ones that used to be used because of these issues. Thanks for the reply, my coop is 2 feet off the ground, I have joists in place ready for flooring. This is the joists and the band that some of it is white wood. Non pressure treated. I plan to seal it up though. With the coop 2' off the ground you can use regular wood. Just keep the bedding dry.
I use treated wood on everything. Humid and wet climate around here and un treated last maybe 5 years tops.
