What kinds of food scraps, etc are ok to feed the chickens?

I'm looking for some sort of list of foods that are good for the chickens? I've read that they cannot have rhubarb, green potatoes, or avocado. Is that really all they can't eat? I've also read that oatmeal is ok, but (please don't laugh too hard at this) I've never cooked it before.

Is it cooked with half water and half oatmeal or does it need more water? lol! Thank you in advance for your replies!

I feed my chickens just about any people leftovers except for greasy or salty foods. I don't feed them onions or large amounts of garlic, I have heard they can make the eggs off flavor.

They love leftover pasta, and cucumbers. Also watermelon rinds are a big hit. Cooked eggs too.

Ours get all scraps but meat. This includes: cooked eggs, crushed egg shells, all fruits with pits and seeds, all vegs., ours eat onions and garlic (we haven't noticed a difference in taste), all grains of any cooked style and raw style. Cooked oats or uncooked oats are great! We have a huge mixing bowl on the counter that is lovingly called "the chicken bowl". Any food scraps are scraped into this (except for meats) and given to them each morning. If we are cutting up a lot of something or a large something, like a melon, we will just throw those scarps out to them right away.

we are similar to jessupfamily...a bowl on the counter with all of our leftovers....but we include the meat. Actually, I believe that meat protein is lacking in most feeds (since mad cow scare). They are afterall omnivores.

My chickens seem to ignore the stuff that's not good for them....well except salt. You have to watch the salt for them. We still give them bacon and stale potato chips, but we make sure to spread it out and not give too many salty things at once.

OH--- many affectionately call their chickens..their little composters, or their little garbage disposals...both terms of affection are appropriate!

Problem is, I didn't realize we were so good at eating up our own leftovers. Now I have to cook extra for the chickens, or make stuff just for them.

They can have potatoes, just not the raw skins, which they really cannot digest well. Bet they'd love mashed potatoes, LOL. Mine get oatmeal, yogurt, buttermilk, cooked squash and tomatoes usually. They love it all.

Mine get all vegetable scraps, yogurt or cottage cheese for a special treat. Right now with the temps so high, I feed them frozen peas or corn. Kinda like chicken ice cream.
