what kinds of geese?

Holderreads is the highest quality you can get for day old ducks and goslings. They often have adult birds for sale, too.

yeah thats what i've heard. so are they " show quality" or regular quality? not that i care, i'd still love them all the same . but just wondering.

Well I have changed my opinion of the embdens.

They are mean to my dewlaps - sooooo mean! I was gonna get on the list from Holderreads for some nice ones, but I've changed my mind. If I had it all to do over - I'd just get dewlaps and forget the rest. They are like puppy dogs.

Sorry just needed to ask a quick question. Do all geese brood their own young or are there some breeds that won't?

Holderread's have both show and pet quality birds. You can get pricing & see pics on their website.
I have Brown Chinese goslings and some bargain goslings due in April. Can't wait!

I'm not sure if all breeds brood their own young, but I used to raise white Chinese, & they made wonderful parents & did an excellent job of hatching & brooding their young--definitely paid their way! My original flock I got as day olds & imprinted them & they were never mean to me, or my husband & family dogs and cats--but the rest of the world had to look out! they were much better watchdogs than--than watchdogs!

Both of my Sebastopol ganders for breeding stock came from Holderreads Waterfowl lFarm. They are wonderful to deal with. If you live on the East coast as I do, the shipping is totally nerve wracking! All my shipped birds took 2 days through USPS instead of one as promised. They still arrived OK, if not traumatized. If you live in New England I'll have show/breeder quality colored Sebs (eggs and babes) in the Spring.

I got a pair of day-old Pilgrims (not show quality) from Holderread's last April. I live pretty local so I went to pick them up from their place. They have been exceptionally healthy and have wonderful personalities. I would also recommend them to a first time goose raiser as I was. They are very good around my 2 year old son, and the only dog they hassle is the little Pap but he deserves it.
They are as imprinted on me as I would want them to be, and follow me around whenever I go outside. And if I am not on time for their dinner they come up on the porch and chew on the door and peek in the windows at me.

so even if they do imprint on their siblings, will they still refer to me as "MOM" and follow me around?
